Dear students of Hanyang University ERICA Residence Hall,

Autumn, the season which has the clear and beautiful blue sky, and colors the autumn leaves on the campus beautifully, is here now.

As we faced an unexpected COVID-19 outbreak at the beginning of the year, we all hoped it will end soon. Despite the hope, it is heartbreaking to have the fourth season already.

While enduring a lot of pain, regret, and loneliness, Hanyang University has been overcoming this difficult situation by becoming one. In particular, I am always grateful for students’ active cooperation and fellowship to keep the dormitory safe.

The recent Chuseok holiday and Hangeul Proclamation Day have passed without any problems, and not only our campus but the whole society is taking a breather.

However, confirmed cases are still reported daily and the number of COVID-19 patients with unclear infection routes has been rising which causes people to be worried and unrelieved.

In the meantime, the government has decided to lower the social distance level from 2.5, which had been strongly managed since the August 15thrallies, to Level 1, following the second level downward revision. It seems like it was an inevitable choice considering social and economic difficulties. It can be a dangerous time that can lead to a more difficult situation because the number of daily cases are still remaining in the 100 range. But it is considered as a last resort to alleviate the economic difficulties of the small and medium-sized businesses and the people who were locked up by strong measures for more than two months.

Face-to-face classes have been started from this week as the school planned. As you all know, running face-to-face classes while the spread of the COVID-19 has not calmed down is a big concern. I believe that students are well aware of this difficult situation and will actively cooperate in creating a safe lecture room environment according to the school's COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

Especially, ERICA Residence Hall is a place where many students stay and live as a group, so more and more attention is needed for safety. Thank you again for cooperating with the management while enduring various restrictions. However, as the spread of COVID-19 continues, I would like to ask for your cooperation again. Although social distancing has been downgraded to level 1, as you can feel, it is by no means a safe situation. We have learned from experience over the past few months that keeping yourself safe can keep everyone safe. Just as COVID-19 pandemic changed a quote “Union is strength” to “Too many cooks spoil the soup", it is time to call for a variety of life changes. I know you have already heard and seen of COVID-19 prevention guidelines to keep the campus and dormitory safe, but please keep reminding the following rules.

First, avoid going to high-risk public facilities (clubs, bars, singing rooms, etc.)

Second, always wear a mask whenever and wherever you go as well as in the dormitory.

Third, clean your hands thoroughly under running water for more than 30 seconds or use hand sanitizer.

Fourth, if you have suspected respiratory symptoms (cough, trouble breathing, headache, sore throat) or have contacted with a person who has those symptoms, refrain from going out but call near health center or Korea Centers for Disease Control (1339). If you need help, contact 041-120 for more detailed information about the nearest selective care center.

Fifth, please delay personal plans or meetings as much as possible until the situation calms down.

Sixth, check your temperature once a day and write it down on the temperature record sheet placed on the first floor of Residence Hall. If you are not staying in the dormitory for certain days, you should report to the Administration Team

Those are the rules that have become a routine which we have been kept over since the pandemic, but I ask you to remind those COVID-19 prevention guidelines again until the day when we eventually overcome COVID-19.

I always wish you good health and good luck in the future.

Thank you.

Kong Noh-sik,

Director of the ERICA Residence Hall at Hanyang University
